Important Dates and Information for the Spring 2021 Semester

19 January, 2021

Dear Student,

Welcome to the Spring 2021 semester!

This semester we again have to largely rely on virtual classes due to the pandemic, unfortunately.

KAUST is continuously assessing the Covid-19 situation and will keep you informed on the teaching modalities. Still, we hope that you have an enriching and motivating learning experience this semester, and we wish you all the best and a successful start into 2021.

Please find below important dates and logistical information for this semester. Please read carefully and mark your calendar accordingly. If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact us at or your Graduate Program Coordinator.

The updated schedule on the Registrar site provides information on room assignments if your course will be taught in person. Please check for schedule updates before the start of your course. Course instructors will inform you individually about their virtual classroom settings.

We recommend that you check the Academic Calendar for details and deadlines. Below are registration dates for the Spring 2021 semester.
  • Last day to add or drop without a W grade: 5:00 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2021 to add a course/research or drop without a W grade via your portal.

  • Last day to drop with a W grade: 5:00 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2021 to withdraw from a course/research with a W grade. Please note that W grade does not affect your GPA. Requests should be sent to detailing the course/research code and the withdrawal reason.
Note that dropping a course after March 25, 2021 is only allowed under exceptional circumstances; the final grade will be updated to withdrew/failed (WF).
Important change: Requests to drop below the minimum number of credits for full-time registration (12 credits) is subject to approval by the Associate Dean and will entail a stipend reduction of 25%.

We wish you well in your studies this semester!
